FINE ART PORTRAITURE ‘BEAUTIFUL’ COLLECTIONS - PORTRAIT FAQs
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS….
DO I HAVE TO BE A MODEL OR HAVE EXPERIENCE TO WORK WITH YOU?
Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, most of the women that I work with have never done a shoot or have any modeling experience whatsoever. All of my “models” are girl next door or soccer mom types who are just looking to boost their self-esteem, feel glamorous for a day, or to create an unforgettable gift for their significant other.
WHERE DO YOU SHOOT?
I shoot in your home, or on location.
DO I HAVE TO PLACE A DEPOSIT TO BOOK A SHOOT? HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK?
Your deposit/retainer secures a date on my calendar reserved you. The retainer minimum is $100 and will be deducted from your total. The balance is due the day of your shoot. The retainer is non-refundable but is transferrable. If you must reschedule, you need to contact me 7 days prior to your scheduled shoot, otherwise you will lose your retainer deposit. As long as there is ample notice, your deposit can be applied to another date within 30 days of your original shoot. I understand that things come up, but if you booked a shoot, it takes a date off of my calendar for someone else. I suggest booking your shoot at least 4 weeks ahead, 6 weeks ahead leading up to Christmas and Valentines Day. If you decide last minute that you absolutely want to book, contact me and I will do my best to accommodate you.
DO YOU EDIT AND RETOUCH THE PHOTOS?
Absolutely! Every photo that you order is edited so that your final prints are works of art. Stretch marks, cellulite, and blemishes… we all have our trouble spots but those things can easily be edited out of your final photos. All the photos you see on the site are retouched, no one is that perfect.
DO I USE MY OWN OUTFITS?
Yes. I do offer a variety of accessories for your use, but you need to bring your own outfits. I always suggest that you use some of your favorite pieces from your own wardrobe such as jeans and a sexy top, dresses, your favorite pieces, as well as some lingerie basics like strapless bra and nude thong. Your outfits don’t need to be extravagant, a simple bra and panty set is perfect! In addition, shoes, boots, and accessories can add an extra edge to your images. Using your own items also gives me an idea of your personality, which helps when deciding your looks. If you need ideas or inspiration you can look though magazines and my website to see what some other clients have done. You can also check the links on my photography blog links section for some places to purchase items for your shoot. And of course, feel free to email me with any wardrobe ideas or issues, I will be happy to help!
WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW HOW TO POSE?
No worries! I don’t expect you to know what you are doing! Everyone is new at this, so we will walk you through the entire process. I suggest that you practice some facial expressions before your shoot, so that you know what expressions you like and how to control them. But I will tell you how to pose, where to look, and what to do. We’ll do a variety of poses for each set so we’ll have a chance to do a little bit of everything. You can always look through magazines and catalogs to get some posing ideas, too!
CAN I DO MY OWN MAKEUP FOR THE SHOOT?
Make up for photography is extremely different from makeup for everyday or even a night out. Even “natural” makeup requires a lot of skill and expertise to apply. Having your makeup done by professionals contributes to the overall look and feel of the finished photograph. Makeup and hair styling is highly recommended. Please visit my photography blog or contact me for suggestions and deals with local salons or stylists.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE MY PROOFS? Within a few days you will receive a link to a private gallery with your proofs online. You will also receive a link to an edited image so you can see what your final images will look like. You will then pick your favorites for editing (the amount you can pick is based on which package you choose). Once you choose your favorites for editing, it will take about 2-4 weeks for your final images to be online in your gallery, and about 4-6 weeks to receive your final prints or products. If you are in a hurry to get your finals, we can speed up the process, but there is a rush fee involved.
CAN I BRING MY BOYFRIEND OR HUSBAND TO MY SHOOT?
No. Having an all female experience is part of what makes shooting with us special. I have allowed women to bring their significant other in the past, but the shoots never seemed to carry the same energy. It can also be nerve racking to have your man watching every move you make. Besides, I am sure he would be bored to tears after the first 30 minutes surrounded by a bunch of women. You can definitely bring a female friend with you to your shoot if you feel you need some moral support or assistance, and I highly recommend having your friend there!
CAN I DRINK DURING OUR SESSION?
If a glass of wine or champagne will help you loosen you up, then it’s your choice. Just remember it can always be seen in the pictures. Your eyes get glassy once the bright lights hit you and the poses tend to get sloppy very quickly once the alcohol starts flowing. I also do not want to be responsible for someone drinking and driving. If we do not shoot at your home, then you should bring a female friend to drive you home.
WHAT IF I DON’T WANT MY PICTURES TO APPEAR ON YOUR WEBSITE OR MARKETING MATERIALS?
Some images may be used for marketing materials, website, or blog, and I will require a signed model release at time of session. You will have the option to view your images in your private gallery before any images will be used. However, I understand that there may be cases in which privacy is a must, so you may upgrade any package to add a privacy option for an additional $50. A lot of women are so thrilled with the outcome that they are proud to have their images displayed. But there are also a lot of clients that don’t want their co-workers or families to see them or simply want to keep their experience private. If you have any concerns about this please contact me and we can discuss further. In some cases, the privacy upgrade fee may we waived.
WHY IS A SHOOT WITH YOU MORE EXPENSIVE? THE OTHER GUY IS ONLY CHARGING $100!
This is a question I answer a lot. There are many “photographers” out there that have no real experience in shooting women the way I do. Most just want to get you naked and take your money. Just because someone has an expensive digital camera and knows how to use Photoshop, doesn’t make them a professional. Believe me, I have been there! Each shoot I do requires time, skill, instruction, consulting with my client, set up of backgrounds and lighting, the hours of shooting, time spent downloading and archiving your images, retouching, designing albums and ordering professional prints. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes for each and every session. I believe in giving every client an unforgettable experience with the same high end retouching and printing techniques that are used in magazines and for fine-art in galleries. The end result is a great boost in self-esteem with museum quality images! The cost of a portrait is often referred to as an investment. A good piece of art will become more and more valuable to their owners over time.
DO I OWN THE IMAGES? I retain the copyright to every photo that I take. I allow my clients to post images online marked with my logo on their personal website, facebook, or modeling pages. Under no circumstances should you or anyone else, retouch or “photoshop” my images. Images that are edited by someone else are not a true depiction of my work and talent. Displaying images edited by anyone but myself, posting them without a photo credit, or submitting them for an advertisement or publication without my knowledge or consent is considered copyright infringement. You will be required to sign an agreement upon arrival for a shoot. You are only permitted to use finished images, not proofs, for magazine submissions or to enter contests. The above is an industry standard and is for your protection as well as mine.
WHAT DOES THE EDITING PROCESS INCLUDE?
I take the utmost care in editing and retouching your photos. I use a fine-art approach to my work and focus on creating your art. Some chosen photographs will undergo more artistic rendering. All collections include image editing: retouching, color enhancement, black & white, and other artistic styling. Often you will get some of the favorite photos in more than one color or effect.
CAN WE ORDER PRINTS FROM YOU?
Of course! We use a professional lab that produces AMAZING prints, canvases, photo boards, wood panels, mounted prints, metal prints, photo cards, and other merchandise. All of this can be ordered right from your private viewing gallery, or you can pre-order what you want and leave the ordering and handling up to us. We also offer discounts and photo bundles, if you order before your shoot.
DO YOU OFFER ALBUM and PHOTO BOOK SERVICES?
Yes. I work with professional companies that offer a variety of products so you can be sure to get exactly what you want. Prices vary depending on the size and materials. Albums, photo books, cards, and other merchandise can be added to your collection for a discounted price, or designed and purchased after your shoot if you prefer to wait.
